CSI + Carousel + Shredding = Busy Saturday!

Carousel, Shredding and CSI all contributed to an incredible, successful Saturday for Lake Erie Nature & Science Center.

More than 100 area residents took advantage of our latest residential Shredding Day, saving more than 55 trees by recycling 3.25 tons of paper. The Shredding Network of Wickliffe, which donated use of the mobile shredder for the morning, also estimates this single morning of recycling efforts kept 9.75 cubic yards of landfill out of the trash, stopped 195 pounds of air pollutants and saved 65 gallons of water.

Meanwhile, at Bay High School, the volunteer Women's Board of Lake Erie Nature & Science Center staged another successful Christmas

Carousel Holiday Festival to support our nonprofit mission. The long-running Carousel attracts artists, crafters and quality vendors, including the great twinkling holiday bottles and cork wreaths using recycled materials pictured above left. The other photo features Women's Board members Doris Kurz, Nancy Black, who was Carousel Cafe Chair, and Deb Barnum.

Back at the Center, we welcomed 550 Girls Scouts representing 75 troops from across Northeast Ohio for CSI: The Case of the Missing Thin Mints. This fun forensic science program was just one of the special offerings we have for scouts throughout the year!

Oh, and we also kicked off Winter Session Program Registration for Members and conducted most of our popular planetarium programs.

Christmas Carousel Holiday Festival

Get a jump on your holiday shopping and support our non-profit at the annual Christmas Carousel Holiday Festival this Saturday at Bay High School from 9:30 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. The festival features over 30 local artists, craftspeople and quality vendors, a great raffle with fabulous prizes and the oh-so enticing Carousel Café featuring home baked goods, lunch and refreshments.

This event is sponsored by Lake Erie Nature & Science Center’s Women’s Board and benefits our non-profit Center. The entry donation of $3 includes one free raffle ticket.
This event is held at Bay High School (29230 Wolf Road) to allow for plenty of vendor space and parking. There's also an easy access drop-off entrance. Hope to see you on Saturday!

Visions of Nature

Our Women's Board is looking forward to welcoming Hal Mitcheltree to present Visions of Nature tomorrow. West Shore Sun Reporter Alison Meaney has a nice preview feature on Hal's method for capturing nature in photographs and music on Cleveland.com and in this week's print edition of the Sun. We hope to see you at the Center tomorrow for Hal's program which begins at 3 p.m. Tickets will be available at the door.

Carousel Holiday Festival Wrap

Shopping, food and music combined to create a festive and fun day at Saturday's 40th Christmas Carousel Holiday Festival at Bay High School. The annual fundraiser is sponsored by the all-volunteer Women's Board at the non-profit Lake Erie Nature & Science Center. That's Susie Min and Serena Chang playing a piano duet for the appreciative crowd of shoppers, while Katie Grzelak and son Logan give a Snuggie Buddie blanket a "test hug."
The Women's Board, led by Deb Barnum and Kathleen Croissant, did a stellar job organizing and putting on another terrific Carousel, which was also supported by a variety of wonderful vendors and shoppers. Thanks to everyone involved! See you at the 41st annual in 2009!

New and Improved Carousel Holiday Festival Coming Saturday

Live local music, an expanded café with lunch and easier access will greet shoppers at this year’s new and improved Christmas Carousel Holiday Festival, Saturday (November 1) at Bay High School. The event benefits Lake Erie Nature & Science Center, allowing shoppers to give twice with their holiday dollars!
Carousel shoppers will find new vendors this year along with old favorites including jewelers, wood craftsmen, photo art, hand-painted gifts and furniture, unique children's clothing, original art work, stained glass, blankets, hand-embellished denim clothing, beaded giftware, personalized children's books, ceramics, notecards and more.

New this year: Live music by a variety of local groups and ensembles as well as the Carousel Café, which will feature lunch, home-baked goods and more. The sponsoring Lake Erie Nature & Science Center Women’s Board, an all volunteer group that supports our non-profit work, will collect a $3 per person entry donationm, which includes one FREE raffle ticket for great prizes! Carousel hours will be 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. The Carousel will be held at Bay High School, located at 29230 Wolf Road. There will be a special drop-off entrance this year that bypasses the long walk through the High School hallways.

Christmas Carousel Success

The hardworking, all volunteer Women's Board pulled off another successful Christmas Carousel Holiday Festival on Saturday. Nearly 600 people stopped in at Bay High School to browse and buy from a wonderful variety crafts and gifts and to snap up the delicious bake sale goods. Women's Board donates the proceeds from this event to Lake Erie Nature & Science Center. Find out more about the board and their activities on our website.
